September 14, 2020 | Ben Morris Exaltation of the Holy Cross – Feast Day 14 September The bronze serpent on a standard is a well-known symbol of the medical profession. Its origins go back to the time when God halted the repentant Israelites in the wilderness through a bronze serpent that Moses fashioned and placed on a standard. In today’s Gospel, Jesus applies this image to his own crucifixion. By being lifted up on the cross He will bring healing and eternal life to all who believe in him.
