Prayer groups are the very life blood of any parish. We have many different prayer groups in our parish and hopefully there is a group to suit everyone.

All are welcome to join any of these groups. To pray is to draw closer to God and to draw from him all that we need to meet the challenges of each day.

First Friday Mass and Adoration

Our community hold a devotional mass to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the First Friday of the month at 7 PM in St Benedict’s Church, Smithfield. Following Mass, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, followed by benediction. All are welcome!

Men’s Rosary and Social Group

The parish has a group to help promote devotion among men.  Each member commits to praying daily one decade (One Our Father plus ten Hail Mary’s) for a specific intention.  The group also meet once a month for a prayer and social function.  If you are interested in being a member please contact Fr. Wojtek via the parish office.

Eucharistic Adoration

For 2000 years, Catholics have believed Jesus to be truly present in the most Holy Eucharist, just as He taught His disciples in John 6. We believe that at each celebration of the Mass, bread and wine are truly transformed into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Therefore, Jesus comes to be present with us not only spiritually, but physically. In the Eucharist, Jesus is just as present with us in the disguise of bread and wine as He was in the disguise of a man 2000 years ago when He walked the earth.

Therefore, if Jesus is truly present (body, blood, soul, & divinity) in the most Holy Eucharist, then we can gaze upon Jesus and worship Him in His physical presence. Therefore, we are blessed with the awesome opportunity to worship Jesus through Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, or most Holy Eucharist. In Eucharistic Adoration, the Eucharistic Host (the Body of Jesus) is placed in a gold monstrance to be adored (see picture above).

Adoration is open to anyone, and is held after the 7:00 PM Wednesday Mass, and between 4:45 PM and 5:45 PM on Saturdays at St Benedict’s church, Smithfield. Please maintain a disposition of silence and reverence while in attendance.
